Algarobo
Algarrobo is a town and municipality in the province of Málaga, part of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. The municipality is situated in the coastal area of La Axarquía, 32 kilometers from the city of Málaga. It is bordered on the north by the municipality of Arenas and Sayalonga, to the east and west by Vélez-Málaga and to the south by the Mediterranean Sea.
Algarrobo Costa
Algarrobo beach, in Algarrobo, is situated between Puerto de la Caleta de Vélez and La Mezquitilla beach.
Made up of pebbles and dark sand, the beach is 800 metres long, has an average width of 20 metres and normally has moderate waves. It has been awarded Blue Flag 2018 status, one of the most important recognitions that a beach can receive.
Various urbanisations, restaurants and beach bars have been built along its perimeter which those in search of good food and refreshments can go to in an attempt to cope with the summer heat. It has as well the quality recognition “Q”. In the summer months sun bed and parasol hire is available.
The Algarrobo coastline is part of its namesake municipality, Algarrobo which has recently enjoyed lots of development as a result of increased tourism to the area. It is here that the three main festivals can be enjoyed: Algarrobo rock, undeniably the best event on the seafront promenade for rock music lovers, Oktoberfest, where beer takes a starring role, or the Noche de San Juan, where one can enjoy some tasty sardines whilst listening to music.
Algarrobo Pueblo
The pueblo is situated at an altitude of 86 meters. The main center for the population is Algarrobo, a town of Arab architecture situated 3.5 kilometers from the coast. Other towns in the municipality are Algarrobo Costa, Mezquitilla and Trayamar.
It has a population of approximately 5,000 residents. Natives of the town are called Algarrobeños

Ajoblanco
Cold soup of Arabic origin made from raw almonds, garlic and bread crumbs.
Espetos de Sardinas
It is typical during the summer to eat the delicious sardines in Algarrobo Costa.
Other recommended and exclusive dish of the area is the local stew.
Hiking routes in Algarrobo
From Algarrobo you have access to some routes that could be interesting if you like to get into nature:
Algarrobo River
A 6-kilometre round trip that will take you about 3 hours to complete and you will pass by ancient Phoenician tombs along this signposted route.
Los Perales stream
This is an 11-kilometre medium-difficulty route that starts at the health centre and will take you approximately 5 hours to complete.
The route can be done on foot or with your own vehicle and on horseback.
Lakes Route to Algarrobo
A 5 hour route in which along a little more than 13 kilometers you will be able to enjoy beautiful panoramic views and the coastline of the village of Algarrobo.
It can be done on foot, in your own vehicle, on horseback or by mountain bike.
Route of Benthomiz Castle
Beautiful panoramic views on this 10 kilometre route that will take you about 4 hours to travel and can be done on foot, on horseback or in your own vehicle.
Route of the Villares to the Fluvial Park
A route that can be done on foot, by car, on horseback or mountain bike and that runs through an agricultural lane along 6 kilometers, 12 if you count the tour which will take you about 5 hours if you walk it.
How to get to Algarrobo
The best route is by the A-7 road in the direction of Rincon de la Victoria which you must continue until you pass Torre del Mar, after which you will find a detour to Caleta de Velez, Algarrobo and Algarrobo Costa.

18th century necropolis sat on the location of a 7th century city.
Ermita de San Sebastian
The Ermita de San Sebastian is in the upper part of town and affords beautiful views and colourful gardens
