Nerja:
Only 6kms from Frigiliana is the bustling resort town of Nerja part of the southern region of Andalucía. Once a small fishing village Nerja still retains its Spanish character with whitewashed houses and cobbled streets. Nerja has a beautiful shoreline dotted with sandy beaches and hidden coves. The focal point of Nerja ‘The Balcon de Europa’ offers stunning views of the beaches of Calahonda, Carabeo and the largest beach Playa Burriana.

Cuevas de Nerja: Nerja Caves Lying on the outskirts of Nerja these are one of the most beautiful cave complexes in Europe. In July the caves offer a beautiful underground setting for a variety of musical and dance events by local and international artists.

Rincon de la Victoria:
The Treasure Cave (Cueva Del Tesoro) is a short 25 minute drive from Frigiliana; here you will find the only visitable marine cave in Europe. Popularly known as the treasure cave it is said to buried the treasure of 5 Muslim kings. www.cuevasturisticas.com

   


Maro: This is an unspoilt village of whitewashed houses in a lovely setting with a small but charming beach at the bottom of the cliffs. Maro is situated to the East of Nerja a short drive of 10 minutes.

Competa: This is a principal wine producing region and during the middle of August the village celebrates the ‘Night of the Wine’ with music, dance, wine tasting and even grape treading. This is an easy going town with a relaxed feel and offers some stunning mountain scenery. The church plaza has some lovely open air restaurants and is a great place for people watching.

Almunecar: 25 minutes from Frigiliana sits this bustling town with bags of character and a great Friday market where you can buy almost anything. Being in the Granada province the majority of bars will offer a free tapa with your drink and the long pebble beach is a great place to relax. Parque Ornitologico an aviary with over 120 species of birds is an interesting place to visit. If you like Flamenco Dance then there is a Flamenco taberna in the old quarter with flamenco shows most evenings. Almunecar also has a fantastic sea water park which makes an entertaining day out for all the family.


Granada: The city of Granada is one of the most beautiful in Andalusia and no visit is complete without seeing the gorgeous Alhambra Palace one of the most evocative monuments in Europe. The journey from Frigiliana takes around one and a half hour driving through the stunning landscapes of Andalucia.

Malaga bull ring and the port behind.  Malaga is a fabulous city to see, to be seen in and too visit.

Malaga: Most visitors to Spain pass through Malaga airport without ever seeing this lovely vibrant city with its beautiful old town and stunning Cathedral. Malaga has something for everyone, wonderful beaches, fantastic shops and exclusive boutiques, art galleries and museums, including the recently opened Picasso Museum. There are flower lined boulevards, lively bars and restaurants serving great tapas typical to the province of Malaga and winding alleyways just waiting to be explored. The drive from Frigiliana takes around 50 minutes or there is regular bus services direct to Malaga from Nerja.

 

Antequera: Around an hour and a half drive through scenic countryside lies El Torcal de Antequera (El Torcal nature Reserve), a stunning landscape resembling a petrified city. This is the most incredible Karstic phenomena in Europe, limestone rock formations having created weird and wonderful shapes many of which have been named including El Diablo – The Devil. The views from the top of El Torcal 1369m are breathtaking and for birdwatchers there is an opportunity to spot the Golden Eagle, Bonelli Eagle, Grifon Vulture to name but a few. This reserve has been declared a specially protected Zone for Birds. There are designated walks one can do through the reserve and it’s possible to come across the emblematic Spanish mountain goat.
